DR. KORIE ACORD, DMD

Growing up in Northern Kentucky, Dr. Korie always knew she wanted to work with children. She attended the University of Louisville for her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, and then went on to the University of Louisville School of Dentistry before continuing her education by completing a one-year hospital-based General Practice Residency at Christiana Care Health Systems in Delaware. She then undertook a two-year stint as a general dentist and completed her Pediatric Dental residency at the University of Louisville/Norton Children’s Hospital.

Her residency training prepared her to offer oral sedation, among other behavior management techniques, for children with situational anxiety in the dental office. For those patients that do not fit the criteria for safe in-office sedation, it is very important to have the option of comprehensive dental treatment under general anesthesia. Dr. Korie’s residency provided this training during her work at Norton Children’s Hospital.

While at Norton Children’s, she worked very closely with pediatricians, anesthesiologists, emergency medicine physicians, and hematology and oncology specialists – providing her a unique medical background to care for both healthy as well as special needs children.

Dr. Korie has served as one of the Pediatric Dentists at The Home of the Innocents, where she was involved with The University of Louisville School of Dentistry as an adjunct faculty member for the pediatric dental residents and dental students. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, Louisville Dental Society, Kentucky Dental Association and the American Dental Association. Dr. Korie enjoys being involved with the community and has been an Upside Therapeutic Riding board member since 2012. Upside provides physical, occupational and speech therapy services using hippotherapy (the movement of the horse) as a treatment strategy. She has also researched and presented on a number of topics ranging from infant oral health to wound healing.

Dr. Korie resides in Simpsonville with her husband, Dr. Timothy Acord, DDS, who is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon- as well as their dogs: Bella and Franklin (Labrador and French Bulldog, respectively).
